Making slime at home is a fun and easy project! Here’s a basic recipe for making slime using just a few ingredients:

Ingredients

  1. White school glue (like Elmer’s glue) – 4 ounces (1/2 cup)
  2. Baking soda – 1/2 teaspoon
  3. Contact lens solution (that contains boric acid) – 1 to 1.5 tablespoons
  4. Optional Additions:
    • Food coloring or paint for color
    • Glitter, beads, or foam balls for texture

Tools

  • A mixing bowl
  • A spoon or spatula

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Pour the Glue into a Bowl:
    • Squeeze 4 ounces (about 1/2 cup) of white school glue into a mixing bowl.
  2. Add Baking Soda:
    • Add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to the glue. This helps firm up the slime.
  3. Optional: Add Color and Texture:
    • If you want colored slime, add a few drops of food coloring or paint. Stir until the color is evenly distributed.
    • You can also add glitter or other fun items like foam balls at this stage.
  4. Add the Contact Lens Solution:
    • Slowly add 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of contact lens solution to the mixture while stirring. The slime will begin to form and pull away from the sides of the bowl.
    • Add the contact solution a little at a time and mix well to get the desired consistency.
  5. Knead the Slime:
    • Once the mixture starts to come together, use your hands to knead the slime. If it’s too sticky, add a few more drops of contact lens solution until it becomes smooth and stretchy.
  6. Play and Store:
    • Your slime is ready to play with! When not in use, store it in an airtight container to keep it from drying out.

Tips for Success

  • If Slime is Too Sticky: Add a few more drops of contact lens solution and continue kneading until it’s no longer sticky.
  • If Slime is Too Hard: Add a bit more glue or water to soften it.
  • Alternative Ingredients: If you don’t have contact lens solution, you can use liquid laundry detergent or borax solution instead. However, be careful with these ingredients as they can be harsh on sensitive skin.
This is the basic slime recipe, but you can experiment with different glues, colors, and add-ins to create unique textures and types of slime, like fluffy slime or glitter slime! Enjoy making and playing with your homemade slime.
