There are several ways, both natural and artificial, to remove tan from one’s skin. You may seek these remedies to help reduce or get rid of tan effectively:

1. Home Remedies
Lemon Juice Along With Honey: Take equal amounts of honey and lemon juice, mix them and apply it on the affected skin. Leave it for 20 to 30 minutes and then wash it off. Lemon has bleaching effect while, honey has a moisturizing effect.

Aloe Vera: Take fresh aloe vera gel and apply it on the tanned skin before going to bed and wash it off in the morning. This is useful for both healing and lightening the skin.

Yogurt And Turmeric: Take yogurt and add a pinch of turmeric and apply it on the affected area. After 30 minutes wash it off. Yoghurt also contains Lactic acid which aids in exfoliation.

Basun and Tumeric Pack: Combine gram flour with a little turmeric and milk or curd to form a paste. Smear it on the skin, allow it to dry, and then rub it off with gentle scrubbing action to remove dead skin.

Cucumber Extract: Using cucumber juice on your skin will allow it to cool and refreshing as well as reduce tan.

2. Decongestion
Pumice Stones: Use a mild scrubbing stone behind the heels and soles to reduce the roughness of that skin. You can make it from a syrup and sugar mixture or use a ready bought one.
Creams: Products that contain either alpha hydroxyl acids (such as glycolic acid) or beta hydroxyl acids (such as salicylic acid) help to slough away tan skin.

3. Over-the-Counter Drugs
Tanning Removal Lotions: Search for lotions made particularly for the purpose of tanning removal. Lookout for kojic acid especially in combination with licorice extract or vitamin C.
Sunscreen: Do not forget to apply sunscreen with a minimum SPF 30 prior to stepping out for outdoor activities. This helps to avoid additional darkening of the skin.

4. Hydration
Consume a good amount of water for skin moisture retention and healing.
5. Professional Treatments
Chemical Peels: These are for the treatment of the removal of tan and for skin renewal. Such treatments are supervised by a dermatologist.
