At some point in the next months, access will be granted to all free users.
If you have been patiently waiting to test out ChatGPT Search, you won't have to wait significantly longer than you already have. OpenAI made the announcement on Monday that it would make the tool accessible to all users, without the requirement of a Plus or Pro subscription, "over the coming months." This comes after the technology was initially made available to premium subscribers in the fall.
Once you have reached that point, the only thing you will require in order to begin using ChatGPT Search is an OpenAI account. After you have successfully joined in, ChatGPT will automatically search the internet for the most recent information that can provide an answer to your question, provided that your inquiry requires it. Through the use of a convenient new icon that is situated directly in the prompt bar, you are also able to compel it to search the internet. For your convenience, OpenAI has also included the option to use ChatGPT Search as the default search engine for your browser.
Furthermore, OpenAI is in the process of combining ChatGPT Search and Advanced Voice mode into a single application. It is possible that you have already realized that the former enables the audio persona of ChatGPT to search the internet for answers to your questions and respond to them in a manner that is natural and conversational. Take for instance the scenario in which you are going to spend your holiday in a foreign city. You could ask ChatGPT what the weather will be like once you arrive, and because it has the Search functionality built in, the chatbot would be able to provide you with the most recent information in response to your inquiry.
OpenAI claims that it has formed partnerships with prominent news and data sources in order to make this functionality more accessible. You will also see widgets for the weather, sports scores, and stocks, among other things, as a consequence of this. In essence, ChatGPT Search is rapidly evolving into a full-fledged competitor to Google right in front of our own eyes.
Over the course of its most recent "12 Days of OpenAI" livestream, OpenAI made the announcement regarding the increased availability. Both Sora and ChatGPT Pro, a new subscription for the firm's chatbot that costs $200, were made available to the general public during earlier live streams that the company broadcast. Given that there are still four days left, it is difficult to imagine the firm being able to top that announcement; but, at this point, it is quite likely that OpenAI has a surprise or two under its belt.
