For a very long time, the layoffs have been in the works.

According to Bloomberg, Meta has initiated the process of terminating the employment of more than one thousand employees from its Reality Labs division, which was responsible for developing products related to virtual reality and the metaverse. The firm will target its efforts on developing wearables, such as the current batch of Ray-Ban smart glasses that are powered by artificial intelligence, as stated in a message written by the Chief Technology Officer, Andrew Bosworth. The news is not really eye-opening. Reality Labs has suffered a loss of more than seventy billion dollars since the beginning of the year 2021. Despite the fact that Meta has done an excellent job of supplying consumer virtual reality headsets and smart glasses, the company's corporate enterprise has not been nearly profitable enough to justify the expense. The enormous gamble that Mark Zuckerberg made on the metaverse, which required changing the name of the corporation from Facebook to Meta in 2021, has, of course, been a complete and utter failure.Bloomberg reports that Meta's plans for the metaverse will now concentrate on mobile devices. This might suggest that there will be a combination of its future wearables and the mobile applications that are already available. "With the larger potential user base and the fastest growth rate today, we are shifting teams and resources almost exclusively to mobile in order to continue to accelerate adoption there," Bosworth said in a message that was sent out to staff this morning.According to Bosworth, the Virtual Reality division of Meta will "operate as a leaner, flatter organization with a more focused road map to maximize long-term sustainability." This however does not mean that Meta is completely abandoning its aspirations for virtual reality headsets. To put it simply, you shouldn't anticipate a sequel to Quest 3 any time soon.https://www.Indiasocialbook.com/about/editors/devindra-hardawar/
