In a move to capture the feature phone market from Samsung, telecom major Reliance Jio is working on an all-new feature phone which will be used for calling. According to a report published by 91Mobiles quoting retail chain sources, the company is reportedly conducting a survey with retailers.
The survey is to see if the Jio Phone Lite - possibly the name of the handset - will fulfil demands of the underserved segments. One interesting feature of the Jio Phone Lite is that it will not support the internet which means it will be the first-ever phone from Reliance Jio to not support internet. The Jio Phone will not support internet and will feature a set of alphanumeric keys and a small display.
The report states that the Jio Phone could be priced under Rs 500 - possibly at Rs 400. The handset has been tipped to be priced at Rs 399 with an additional Rs 50 recharge pack for the handset and a validity of 28 days. The tariff will include unlimited calls to Jio and landline numbers as well as bundled minutes to other networks.
