In the course of the CES 2025 event, the business presented the most recent iteration of their DLSS technology.
DLSS 4, the most recent iteration of NVIDIA's real-time image upscaling technology, was presented at CES 2025 by the company, and it was announced that it will be available on all RTX graphics processing units. This includes the RTX 20 series, which was retired in the year 2020; however, the older models are not receiving all of the features that were part of the series.
With the introduction of the new GeForce RTX 50 series models, DLSS 4 will make it possible to generate multiple frames. In comparison to the conventional brute-force rendering method, this feature has the potential to generate up to three more frames for each frame that is drawn in the typical manner. Additionally, it has the ability to multiply frame rates by up to eight times. Multiple Frame Generation will allow for fully ray-traced gameplay at 4K resolution at 240 frames per second, according to NVIDIA, when the company's GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card is utilized. This new flagship GPU will be available for $1,999 and will be released later this month.
Additionally, DLSS 4 is what the business refers to as the "biggest upgrade to its AI models" since the release of DLSS 2, which was an earlier version of the software. In the near future, DLSS Ray Reconstruction, DLSS Super Resolution, and DLAA will be powered by the same advanced architecture that is used to power AI models like ChatGPT and Google's Gemini. Enhanced temporal stability, less ghosting, and more detail of moving objects are some of the benefits that the corporation claims this will bring about.
From the very beginning, DLSS 4 will be supported by a total of seventy-five games and applications. Games such as Alan Wake and Cyberpunk 2077 will be updated to include the capability to take advantage of the Multi Frame Generation feature of the technology when the new RTX 50 cards are released. There will be further titles that will be upgraded in the future to include support for Multi Frame. One of these titles is Black Myth: Wukong. Additionally, upcoming titles such as Doom: The Dark Ages and Dune: Awakening will support the feature when they are released.
The graphics processing units (GPUs) of the GeForce RTX 40 series will not receive Multi Frame Generation; rather, they will receive DLSS 4's increased frame generation, enhanced ray reconstruction, super resolution, and deep learning anti-aliasing capabilities. In the meantime, graphics processing units (GPUs) from the GeFore RTX 30 series and RTX 20 series are receiving the final three.
