A test is scheduled to take place at the beginning of the year 2025.

The proposal that T-Mobile and Starlink have to provide mobile service using the satellites of the latter company is moving forward with much excitement. In the last month, the firms have been granted approval for the project by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Currently, the provider is accepting registrations from anyone who are interested in participating in the beta testing of the T-Mobile Starlink direct-to-cell satellite service.

A beta test is scheduled to take place in the year 2025. Beginning with text messaging, it will be the primary focus. It is anticipated that voice and data access will be made available at a moment in the future. Any T-Mobile postpaid voice user who possesses a device that is compatible with the beta program is eligible to join up for it. However, there are only a limited number of slots available, and the provider has stated that it is giving priority to first responder agencies and individuals for participation in the program.

In the past, emergency authorization was granted to T-Mobile Starlink for the purpose of temporarily activating the service in order to improve communications during hurricanes Helene and Milton. "Even without the full constellation in place, customers with capable devices were able to receive critical emergency alerts and send and receive messages when satellites were overhead," according to the company. "The system proved helpful for many that lost mobile and/or broadband access and provided critical data that will help further refine service."

There are approximately 500,000 square miles of land in the United States that are not covered by terrestrial cell towers. T-Mobile intends to give service to this region with the assistance of Starlink. Within the context of T-Mobile's current network, the direct-to-cell satellite constellation is intended to be integrated with the expectation that it will function in the same manner as conventional cell service. At some point in the future, the carrier claims that T-Mobile Starlink will be "available in most outdoor areas where you can see the sky."
