Utah's Salt Lake City — At around 1:41 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025, an SLCPD officer pulled over a vehicle close to 375 South 765 West. Chandler Grillone, 32, who was not involved in the collision, approached the responding officer as he was in his vehicle during that traffic check. Grillone is seen attacking, confronting, and challenging the SLCPD officer on body-worn camera footage. Grillone, who was carrying a weapon, received several orders from the SLCPD officer. Grillone started pointing at and approaching the occupied police car during the encounter after being repeatedly told to halt, and the SLCPD officer fired at least one round. After being hit, Grillone was taken to the hospital, where he passed away. A member of the community was riding along with the police officer in the vehicle. On the spot, officers found Grillone's weapon. There were no more injuries, according to the earliest reports. Subsequently, the SLCPD discovered that the officer who was involved in this event sustained injuries consistent with being struck by a sharp instrument. It is not thought that the officer's injuries is life-threatening. This case does not include a 9-1-1 call.
