When you use the Incognito Mode (or Private Browsing) of a browser, the history is not stored in your device when you close the session. However, there may be temporary traces of cookies or cached files left behind.

Here's how you can control and delete all traces of your Incognito browsing:

1. Clearing History and Cache in Incognito Mode

As incognito mode neither stores the browser history nor the search history, there is mostly nothing to erase from the history of the browser itself. Nevertheless, for precautionary measures, here are a few steps toward clearing other traces:

On Google Chrome (Desktop & Mobile)

Close Incognito Tabs:
Upon completing your session of incognito browsing, closing the incognito tabs will assure that no sessions remain open
Clear Cache and Cookies:
Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear Browsing Data.
Select the Time range; choose All time to make sure everything is cleared.
Ensure Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files are checked.
Click Clear data.
On Firefox (Desktop & Mobile)
Close Incognito Tabs or Private Browsing windows.

Clear Cache and Cookies (if needed):

Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Clear Data.
Select both Cookies and Cached Web Content and click Clear.
On Safari (Desktop & Mobile)
Close Private Browsing Tabs when you’re done.

Clear Cache:

On desktop, go to Safari > Preferences > Privacy and click on Manage Website Data to remove cookies and cache.
On iPhone/iPad, go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data.

2. Clear Other Potential Traces

Even though Incognito Mode doesn't record history, some other data could remain, including:

DNS Cache: Sites that are visited while Incognito will most likely still reside in the memory of your machine's DNS resolver. Purge the DNS Cache to wipe evidence of visiting them.
Flush DNS Cache on Windows
Open command prompt and then type ipconfig /flushdns
Enter- This clears out the DNS Cache
Flush DNS Cache on a Mac
Open Terminal and enter: sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
Return and provide admin password, when prompted.

3. VPN/Private Network-Private Network is essential for anonymity for those wanting improved privacy

If you’re concerned about privacy, consider using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) or a private browsing tool to mask your IP address and prevent your internet service provider from logging your online activity.

Summary
While Incognito Mode is designed to leave no history on your device, clearing cookies, cache, and any other temporary files through your browser’s settings is a good way to ensure no traces are left behind.
