As of right now, Google has completed implementing the June 2024 spam upgrade.

Almost seven days ago, on December 19, 2024, the June 2024 spam upgrade went into effect. Updates about spam persisted until December 26, 2024. Finally, on December 26, 2024, it came to an end. In 2024, this was Google's third new spam update.

Additionally, it began a day after Google finished the core update that it had introduced in December of that year. Regarding spam, this update was general and generic. It did not automate the site reputation abuse policy, nor was it an update on link spam. Only manual actions accomplish this.

What we observed is as follows: Even though we only revealed the update the day after the December core release, it had a significant impact. It seems to have struck very hard in a matter of days and was far more common than some of the previous spam releases. But it is not yet ready to get into the specifics of the update.

If this upgrade affected you, you might see a drop in your ranks in Search Console.

It is crucial to remember that holiday traffic might be erratic and low for a lot of websites when making this update. As a result, you should prioritize ranks over traffic. There have been updates about spam in the past. Additionally, the most current spam update ended on June 27. This was known as the spam update for June 2024.

A two-part update on spam:

What are the causes of our worry? Many of us were surprised when Google released this update just one day after the core update and a few days before the holidays. When Google announced that it would stop an upgrade either during or after the holidays, we were somewhat surprised.

In 2024, Google made seven changes to its search algorithm

There have been three upgrades to combat spam in addition to the four main improvements. Even though its type of spam is unknown, it may have caused ranking changes during this update. The aforementioned modifications are considered spam in this instance.

"Although Google's automated methods to detect search spam are always in operation, we occasionally make notable enhancements to how they work," the advisory reads. When this occurs, we label it a spam update and post it on our list of Google Search ranking changes.

For instance, our AI-based spam prevention solution is called SpamBrain

We occasionally make improvements to that system to help it detect new kinds of spam and to make it more effective at identifying spam. After a spam update, sites should check their spam policies to make sure they are still in compliance. Websites that break our rules might not show up in results at all or rank lower. If our automatic systems discover over several months that a website conforms with our spam policies, then making improvements could help the site get better.

Making adjustments could not result in an improvement in the case of a link spam update (an update that addresses link spam explicitly). Our systems eliminate the potential effects of spammy links, erasing any ranking advantage they may have had for your website. Our systems eliminate any potential ranking advantages those links may have produced.
