100 Zeros funded the marketing of the indie horror film 'Cuckoo'.
Google is starting to make its own movies and TV shows. Google has partnered with Range Media Partners, to work on projects that are geared toward younger audiences. In addition to the opportunity for product placement, the larger goal of the 100 Zeros initiative is to fund projects that have a positive view of technology and get Hollywood interested in using Google products. Business Insider thinks it would make sense for Google to push Immersive View, 3D aerial scans of the world featured in Google Maps. Veo 2, Google's AI video model, seems like a natural candidate, too. Either way, the company has a movie under its belt already: Cuckoo. Google also shared the following post on the X blog, confirming that 100 Zeros is not a studio but rather a way to help filmmakers integrate XR and AI into their work:
Google is known for its YouTube Red Originals. This program has been ended now, but it was popular. When YouTube started YouTube Red, now YouTube Premium, it also started original content. It hired some popular YouTubers to make series and films. So far, the program has produced some hits, like Cobra Kai, that have found homes on other streaming services. But it has never been a true competitor to Netflix.100 Thieves is just another version of YouTube Red. It’s a more traditional play to produce original content and sell it to other platforms — just with a Google spin, perhaps.
