Through specific TSA checkpoints, you are able to use digital passports to get through the process.

From this point forward, you will have one less thing to search for in your pocket or purse when you are at the airport. Starting today, you will be able to use your Google Wallet to carry a digital replica of your United States passport and utilize it at checkpoints operated by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Downloading the Google Wallet app and either logging into an existing account or creating a new one is the first step you will need to take in order to add your passport to Google's digital wallet application. In order to establish an ID pass with your US passport, you will need to check the prompt and then follow the procedures. For the purpose of verifying your identity and scanning the security chip in your passport, the application will request that you share a video selfie with it. We anticipate that the verification of your identity by Google will take no more than a few minutes.

The digital version of your passport will not be valid at every airport. At this time, there are 27 states and Puerto Rico that each have at least one airport that is able to accept digital forms of identification. You may find out whether states and airports accept digital IDs by visiting the website of the Transportation Security Administration.

Since quite some time ago, Google has been conducting tests to determine how digital passports can be used and stored within Google Wallet. Just over the past few months, a number of jurisdictions have begun to accept digital identification documents. New Mexico is the most recent state to begin accepting digital identification documents, such as driver's licenses and state IDs, through the use of Apple Wallet and Google Wallet.
