Despite the fact that the firm has suggested merging with TikTok's activities in the United States, it is currently unknown whether or not ByteDance will go through with the merger.

Approximately one day before it is anticipated that TikTok will cease operations in the United States, the startup business Perplexity AI has presented a proposal to ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, proposing a merger that would enable it to continue running. This information was reported by CNBC. According to a report by CNBC, which cites an unnamed source, the proposed merger would "create a new entity combining Perplexity, TikTok US, and New Capital Partners." A legislation that forces ByteDance to sell TikTok or else it will be outlawed in the United States was upheld by the Supreme Court on Friday, and this comes after the court ruled unanimously to uphold the statute. To this point, the corporation has shown no interest in selling its assets.

Perplexity, which is now offering an AI-powered search engine and is being sued by news organizations for copyright infringement, is reportedly anticipating that a merger rather than a sale will be more appealing to ByteDance. This information comes from a source that was provided to CNBC. According to a report by CNBC, the new structure would make it possible for the majority of ByteDance's existing investors to keep their equity shares and would facilitate the addition of additional video to Perplexity. In the event that ByteDance were to accept the proposal, there is a possibility that the firm would be granted a ninety-day extension by Trump in order to negotiate a contract. Trump has stated to Kristen Welker of NBC News that he would "most likely" do so when he takes office on Monday. However, there is little evidence to suggest that ByteDance will proceed in this direction as of yet.

TikTok has stated that it will "be forced to go dark on January 19" when the law goes into effect, notwithstanding the widespread speculation that has been going on about potential acquisitions. This is unless "the Biden Administration immediately provides a definitive statement to satisfy the most critical service providers assuring non-enforcement." According to reports, the government that is leaving, on the other hand, has stated that it will leave all of that to the Trump team to deal with. According to MSNBC, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre referred to the allegation made by TikTok that it will be shutting down as "a stunt." She also stated that "we see no reason for TikTok or other companies to take actions in the next few days before the Trump Administration takes office on Monday."

Jean-Pierre is quoted as saying, "We have laid out our position clearly and straightforwardly: actions to implement this law will fall to the next administration," as reported by MSNBC. Therefore, TikTok and other businesses ought to address any concerns that they may have with them.
